Welcome to Mommy Brain

Some of you probably already have a nicely adjusted Mommy Brain--you know, that place where things you used to know (like organic chemistry and all your clients' birthdays) get fuzzy and you can only remember really bizarre things, like the exact location of every single one of your kids' toys and the words to your high school fight song. I, however, am a brand-new mom and the whole Mommy Brain concept is therefore also brand-new to me. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't quite believe in it until I encountered it's dreaded predecessor, Pregnancy Brain. Once I fell into the pregnancy brain trap and had the same conversations with people for five days without realizing they were reruns to everyone else, I became convinced that not only does Pregnancy Brain exist (and suck), but I also deduced that Mommy Brain must be real too.
I am here to tell you other non-believers that Mommy Brain is real, and it is beating me senseless. On the plus side, this adjusting to being a mom thing is not only hard and rewarding and lousy and wonderful at the same time, it is often hilarious. My baby girl is so much fun, and I'm lucky to have a husband who knew I was crazy in high school and married me anyway--so he's not all that put off by my new craziness, at least now I have a reason.
I also have a ready-made excuse for any idiot moments and I'm going to milk it as long as possible because as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to being a mom...it is always my first day!

How crazy! Who the heck is your Dad? My mom is Kathy Winterholler White and she graduated in 1967. That is nuts that you have family from here, too. It is very small. I've lived here my whole life until I graduated HS. Write soon!

That is too funny Carly- yes I am experiencing Pregnancy Brain as we speak and expect to slide into Mommy Brain quite smoothly. I had pre-pregnancy brain too...so I guess these transitions shouldn't be too bad! It was nice to see you guys for Mimi's bday! We'll have to get together soon!
